Opinion: Other Spectacular Par-3s –
By Wayne Halm –
Oh, those other spectacular par-3s on Kauai –
On Kauai there are a lot of “Ocean Holes” – even our muni-course has two. The ocean holes tend to get all of the photographic glory, and I am as guilty of that as anyone.
However, there are also spectacular, challenging, and exciting holes that have nothing to do with the ocean. Let me use this brief post to introduce you to three of my favorite par-3s. (Clicking on the pictures below will cause them to display larger.)
The third hole on the Makai Course (located on the Princeville Resort on the north-shore of Kauai) – http://www.makaigolf.com .

Makai Course #3
This may be the ‘air-time’ king – hitting my sand wedge there is plenty of time to ‘stare the ball down’.
The sixth hole on the Puakea Golf Course (located in Lihue on the east-shore of Kauai) – http://www.puakeagolf.com .

Puakea Course #6
A careful line-up and enough club are essential here – neither the lake nor the trees ever give a ball back.
The eighth hole on the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course (located in Lihue on the east-shore of Kauai) – http://www.kauailagoonsgolf.com .

Kauai Lagoons Course # 8
I have a strategy on this hole – hit a club that will not reach the bunker – better a long putt than a bunker shot toward the lake.
So you see golf on Kauai is not “all” about the ocean – there are other holes with significant “WOW” factors.
Come play golf with me.
