Round Played: with Barry and Abby Ages –

By Wayne Halm –

Sometimes it just works out.

On October 22nd 2014 I played the Kauai Lagoons course with Barry and Abby Ages from Bridgewater, New Jersey.  This was one of those lucky days for me where things just work out.

Rain woke me up and my expectations for the day were low – I even wore my old shoes in case it was wet.  Then I met Barry and Abby and things improved – fun people and the course was dry.

By the third hole it became apparent that Abby was the best golfer in our three-some.  She ‘mistakenly’ teed off from the white tees with Barry and I – and proceeded to par the hole to our bogies.

On the back nine some of the Hawaii State Birds flew over – we stopped to watch, but didn’t let them get in the way of fun.

I don't think they were this glad to see a helicopter - They were just having fun.

My wedge had some spurts of brilliance and took the load off my putter.  However, it also had some miserable decelerating failures that nobody’s putter could make up for.

The 14th hole offered up the normal problems – and a distraction.

Abby handled the problem.

Barry handled the problem too and there were happy golfers at the pin.

The distraction - a rain storm over the ocean - moved south of us - tough luck Poipu.

On the signature 16th hole challenges also arose – everyone was short.

Just a chip and a putt - well, for Abby anyway.

Can you guess who had the par on this hole?

And the 18th hole just plain messed with us – a bogie (good) – a double (okay) – and an ‘X’ (common).  But we didn’t let that pull our moods down.  This was a good fun round.

Come play golf with me.

  1. great reading Wayne. I am finally home and able to open and read this. We thoroughly enjoyed our day on the course with you. Reading this brought a smile to our faces. Hope to meet up with you again next year. I have to retain my position in the field.

    • Aloha Abby,
Thank you for the kind words. That was a fun day on the course, remembering it puts a smile on my face too.
Yes, I hope we can golf again also. I suspect that your ‘position in the field’ is secure – but I will practice or exercise or something – and perhaps present a better challenge next time.
      You and Barry take care.
      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne
