A Brief LOTTE Story –
By Wayne Halm –
The LOTTE Championship was played this week at Ko Olina, Hawaii. I thought I would tell a little story about it.
I know I’ve said that I don’t attend professional golf tournaments, however, 7 years ago I lived at Ko Olina. I don’t think it was called LOTTE back then but it was played literally in my back yard.
On the Saturday my wife, Sally, was in California and I took my Golden Retriever, Annie, out on the hill to watch. I sat and leaned back against a palm tree. Annie settled on the grass beside me. We contently watched the golfers walk down the fairway.
Then one of the ladies hit a drive out near the road. I think she wanted a ruling on something because everything stopped.
A moment later my cell phone vibrated, it was Sally.
“I know what you’re doing,” she said.
“How do you know that?” I asked.
“Because I’m watching you on the Golf Channel.”
I looked around and sure enough the camera behind the 11th green was pointed directly at me. I guess the image of a guy sitting against a palm tree with a Golden Retriever was too good to pass up during the break.
Sally added, “Aren’t you glad you didn’t bring your girlfriend out there?”
“Oh, but I did,” I told her and hugged the dog.
