Mini Post: Oversized Grips — Yes or No –
By Wayne Halm –
My clubs are due for new grips, maybe even overdue – okay, way overdue.
Last time I had them re-griped I went with the standard black Golf Pride corded grips. I did this simply because I couldn’t make a decision about color.

This is my current grip on my lob wedge, it still looks pretty good. Every month I pull it out to see if anything has changed. Every month the answer is the same, “Nope, I still can’t hit the thing.”

I have another decision to make this time, not color but size. My hands are larger than most and I’ve been considering getting the larger oversized grips.
However, rather than go it alone, this time I’m going to ask for help. Help not from the people trying to sell me the grips – but from you.
Please leave a comment with your opinion of the oversized grips – pro and con, I need it all.
Then come play golf with me.

I have used over-sized grips for years. I find gripping the club easier and more comfortable. Mine are oversized medium. There is a chart to determine which over-sized grip is suited for your hand. Golf pride http://www.golfpride.com/fit/ is a good place to start.
Let us know how it works out.

Aloha Jim,
Thank you. I’m not sure why I’m finding this such a big decision. I’ve been striking the ball well lately and suspect I’m just leery of changing anything.
Your link helped.

Aloha Wayne,
I don’t have particularly large hands, and I use a mid-size grip (one size up from the standard). After much research and talking to some pros, I came to the conclusion that grip size is mostly about feel and comfort. If a larger grip feels more comfortable when you grip it, than it will most certainly help. If it is not too much hassle, you could always get one or two of your clubs re-gripped with a larger grip and test it out on the course. If you don’t like it, at least you haven’t invested too much money in an entire set of grips. My “go-to” grip is the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 3G midsize…I like the tackiness of the grip as opposed to some of the firmer grips. But like I said, it’s all about personal preference, and I do not believe there is any right or wrong.
Hope this helps my friend!
Cheers
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Good idea! I might have larger grips put on my driver, 5-iron, and wedge – and see if I like the ‘feel’. I’ve got to do something soon, people are starting to laugh at the strings hanging out of my driver grip.
