Round Played: with Les Vasconcellos and Sharon Aquino-

On December 11th 2016 I played the Puakea Golf Course with my pals Les Vasconcellos and Sharon Aquino from Honolulu, Hawaii. This day just got better and better.

While driving to the course I doubted we would get to play. But I went anyway because breakfast at Hookipa Café is that good.
There is just no other way to put it … it was raining.

However the mountains began to breakup the clouds.

There was even some blue sky as we stepped onto the first tee.
.
And the Sun was shining by the time we walked off the first green.
.
The pace of play was wonderful … however on the par3 6th hole we did have to wait briefly for the group ahead to clear the green.

Of course I used this pause to take a picture.

Les and Sharon fondly remember the 6th … they both parred it. Me? Well, I had a different score. But I had my moments too. The best came on the long and difficult par5 11th hole.
For many golfers a bogie here is a relief, a double is fine, and even a triple is acceptable.

But not me … not this day. This is my birdie putt – and yes, I made it.
.
As the round progressed the weather got even better and we had even more fun.

He wasn’t in our group, but I got to chat with my old buddy Santa Claus. He was taking a little R&R, but wanted to compare notes. That was a nice bonus.
Yes, I do play golf with Santa Claus. And yes, he does ask my opinion about who has been naughty and nice … so you had better be nice to me.

This was a fun round – and it kept getting better and better. We all had some good shots … and some funny shots, at our level of play you just have to laugh at them. This was the way golf should be.
As for my 2016 goal of playing golf with 100 people I haven’t met – I can’t count Les and Sharon, we have played before. And I already knew Santa Claus. So the number so far remains at 42. Want to be in that number?
