Round Played: with Josh and Beth Strukoff –

By Wayne Halm –

The most successful Home of the PGA Grand Slam

On December 7th 2016 I again played golf with my buddies Josh and Beth Strukoff from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  This time we chose the Poipu Bay Golf Course.

The Grand Slam of Golf moved on to other courses, but this magnificent course is still here … and you can’t go wrong playing it.

The PGA thought they could do better … they were wrong.

Somehow the PGA thought they could do better … they were wrong.

.

But we weren’t.

But we weren’t – we were out for a good time … and this course provided it.

.

Josh wanted an early start and there was a determination in his demeanor.  I think he wanted some “pay back”.

Josh practiced putting for a bit.

Josh practiced putting for a long while.

.

And we were off.

And then we were off.

.

While I prefer to play a bit later in the day, the fun on this course starts early.  Beth quickly started to press.

Beth started birdie hunting before the dew dried.

Beth started birdie hunting even before the dew dried.

.

And I decided to follow her lead.

And I decided it would be wise to follow her lead.

.

Poipu Bay is an absolutely beautiful course, but not every hole  is “on the ocean” … however, none are far from it either.  There is a lot of fun to be had on this course.

Tee box … Fairway … Fairway … Ocean.

Tee box … Fairway … Fairway … Ocean.

.

And on the holes that do play along the ocean … the ocean is definitely “in play”.  Josh really needed this drive left of the coconut palms to work … it didn’t.

On the 16th hole the ocean is both a hazard and a distraction.

.

This was a fun round.  And one of our group played the back nine at even par.  Josh will just have to wait for his “pay back”.  … and yes, we both had our picture taken with her on the 18th green.

A great golf course plus great playing partners equals a great day!  This was the way golf should be.

Josh writes a golf blog called Golf is Mental – he should post about this round soon.  Check it out … Compare his experience to mine.

Josh, Beth, and I have played before – read about our previous rounds below:

    • Aloha Jim,
Thank you. Beth is working hard to teach us … but I think she expects me to pay attention and concentrate. Those aren’t my strong suits, but maybe I will learn something by proximity .
      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne
