Round Played: with Dean Nelson –
By Wayne Halm –
Sometimes I just have to laugh at my game … it’s just the best option.
On September 22nd 2016 I played the Kiahuna Golf Club with Dean Nelson. A great day, a great golf course, and a great golfing buddy – oh yeah, this looked to be FUN.
The great day, course, and buddy carried the day – it was fun. They more than made up for my poor play.

.
On this day I was suffering from … well, let’s call it “Restless Neck Syndrome”. I rarely saw the club strike the ball, and when I don’t see that I rarely like the rest of what I see.
Fortunately, Restless Neck Syndrome isn’t contagious. Dean didn’t catch it, he nailed the ball all day long.
.
I just had to laugh at my poor play … and I laughed a lot. My troubles covered the entire course.
.

But Restless Neck Syndrome is particularly troublesome on the greens – yes, I three putted from there.
.
Restless Neck Syndrome is not believed to be fatal. I have known golfers who died “with” it, but none who died “of” it. Even so, one feature of the course gave me a chill.
.
.
Golf Coaches must have a thousand treatments for Restless Neck Syndrome, but the prescription I got filled was “drinks in the clubhouse”. It does lessen the pain … but does it work? We will find out in a few days.
I have a 2016 goal of playing golf with 100 people I haven’t met. Dean was number 38. Want to be in that number?
Come play golf with me.

“I have known golfers who died “with” it, but none who died “of” it.” Lol, great post… hope you have recovered 🙂
Aloha Wendy,
Girl you have put the swagger back in my step. To have Perth’s favorite poet publicly approve of one of my sentences … well, that was just the medicine I needed.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
🙂 funny
Aloha Wayne,
I am glad you were able to find some ‘medicine’ in the clubhouse for your syndrome. I do hope it works, but in the meantime, just keep having fun!
Kiahuna looks like a fun track…is it in as good of shape as it looks like from your photos?
Cheers!
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Oh yes, golf can be fun even if you’re not playing well. But after that round I was ready to take my medicine. I had one dose at the clubhouse and continued the treatment on my deck.
Kiahuna is a fine course. It doesn’t have the ocean front location of many Kauai courses … but it holds its own.
The course is normally in great shape. Occasionally feral pigs do come out of the jungle and root up small patches but the grounds keepers make repairs quickly. This is more of a curiosity than a problem to players.
Kiahuna is near Koloa Landing and we will put it on our play list.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
