Round Played:  with the California Crew –

By Wayne Halm –

On April 26th and 27th the California Crew came to Kauai as part of their annual Golf Odyssey.  Nine guys made the trip this year.

The whole crew.

The whole crew.

They only had two days on Kauai so I packed them full – I didn’t want anyone to get bored.

On Tuesday:

On Wednesday:

And yes, there were “adult beverages” involved in everything.  This was about having fun … and we did.

I have set a 2016 goal of playing golf with 100 people I haven’t met.  I already knew most of these guys, but three were new to me.  Jack Gresser, Rob Stowasser, and Mike Larrabee are numbers 22, 23, and 24.  Want to be in that number?

Come play golf with me.

  1. Aloha Wayne,

That looks like a crew that knows how to have fun, glad you had a good time and made the most of the trip over! Were there any memorable shots besides the ones from a bottle?

    • Aloha Josh,

Funny thing about those shots from a bottle – later in the evening they are less memorable.

However, on the course these guys play a modified skins game they call Dots. Basically you get a dot for every skin won, a dot for every birdie, and two dots for every eagle – the guy with the most dots wins, nothing else matters. This encourages extremely aggressive play. For example on the par-5 18th at Makai, after two I was looking 125 yards across a lake at a pin tucked ridiculously close to the water. Landing in the middle of the green and two putting was going to get me nothing – I had to land close and one putt. So I took my sand wedge and dropped the ball 10 feet short, in the water. With nothing to lose I did that twice again before stopping the ball 6 inches from the cup. Was that memorable? The amount of money I didn’t win was.

      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne
