Mini Post: Golf Course Food –

By Wayne Halm –

Some golfers drink beer – others don’t  …   But we all eat.

On Kauai all of the golf courses have good food.  But one stands out – the Puakea Golf Club.  The course is memorable – and so is the food.

The Puakea Golf Course has some beautiful views.

The restaurant at Puakea is called Ho’okipa Café (Ho o ki pa).  It is open from 7am till sunset.  I normally eat there on three occasions – before golf, after golf, and when I’m hungry on non-golfing days.

Before Golf:  Oh yes, I make a point of arriving early enough to eat before golf  – it’s that good.  I will have either the French Toast or the Pancakes.  But that is just me, here is a link to the full Breakfast Menu.

After Golf:  The Ho’okipa Café is a fine place to settle what needs to be settled and to practice stories after golf.  It has a good selection of domestic, imported, and local beers – also some whisky and wine.  I like to eat while “settling” ( I may as well get something out of it).  The burgers are very good and the Original Puakea Club is awesome, but my personal favorite is the Big Wave Chilli.  Here is a link to the full Lunch Menu.

Non-golf Days:  I frequently go to the Ho’okipa Café for breakfast when I’m not playing.  On those days I can be more aggressive with my order.  Mostly I get the Loco Moco, it’s tasty, filling, and easy on the stomach.  But sometimes they offer an all-you-can-eat omelet station, this always puts a smile on my face – and a nap in my future.

The Ho’okipa Café at the Puakea Golf Club is a great way to start and end a memorable round of golf.  And yes, you might see me there.

Come play golf with me.

  1. Aloha Wayne,

Those are some mean looking plates of food my friend. I love good food, so I appreciate when a golf course steps up their game in that department. It really enhances the overall experience. Puakea has it figured out — I look forward to eating (and golfing) here once we make it out to Kauai.

    Cheers
    Josh

    • Aloha Josh,

Golf Course Restaurants usually start with a vision. But dollars are a hard task-master, and they evolve to reflect the tastes of the golfers. The golfers at Puakea have good taste – you bet we will join them.

      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne

  2. Wayne if anything food would definitely make my youngest go to a golf course with me. Going to share these pictures with him.
    Great post!
