Round Played: On the Manele Golf Course –
By Wayne Halm –
On January 14th 2016 I played the Manele Golf Course on the Hawaiian island of Lanai. In the golfing world this course is definitely top tier. You will hear much more about this course.

The score card on the cart, and yes, that is a menu under it. If you get hungry on the course, call them, they will deliver you order out on the course.
.
I played with my golf blogging buddy Josh Strukoff from Calgary, Canada. His wife Beth and his brother-in-law Matt Beauchamp joined us. This round was the primary purpose of my trip to Lanai – and it was FUN. (Josh’s blog, GolfisMental, is at http://golfismentalblog.com/ – look it over.)

Perhaps I should have, but I didn’t bring my clubs and used a set of the course’s Titleist. These are mighty fine sticks.

The course’s clubs – my hands did not do them justice this day.
.
The Manele Golf Course is first rate. The spectacular breath-taking ocean views simply don’t stop. The course condition was just perfect (Well if front of me anyway, I felt guilty for every divot I made.) But don’t let the beauty fool you, this course is plenty challenging.

The perfect seashore paspalum fairways were plenty long, but occasionally not wide enough to contain my shots.
.

However, Beth had no problem staying in the short grass – so I guess it was just me.
.
The smooth seashore paspalum greens were large enough to give us some spectacular putts – if we had made them. There is a saying in Hawaii, “Putts always break toward the ocean.” On this golf course sometimes they do – but sometimes they don’t. Reading these greens is a higher art form.

.

It took Josh more practice.
.
Mis-read putts were disappointing, but it was short lived. The sensation of teeing off literally on the edge of the world was thrilling.

I don’t know how many there were, I did not get into all of the bunkers. But Josh, Matt, and I found our share. We didn’t really mind, the bunkers were very playable.

Beth on the other hand chose to avoid the bunkers for some reason.
.
You bet we paused on the famous 12th hole for pictures. It is almost the law. I mean who wouldn’t want to be in these pictures?

Heck, even Scott Ashworth, the Director of Golf, has his picture taken here – it is that special.
.
This was absolutely a great day golfing. Josh, Beth, Matt, and I had so much fun that we used up all of their time. We could not fit in a 19th hole.

This is the view they would have had if we could.
.
As an active blogger I “electronically meet” a lot of great people – but rarely get to meet them in person. This was a special day for me.
I have set a 2016 goal of playing golf with 100 people that I haven’t met. Josh, Beth, and Matt were numbers 8, 9, and 10. Want to be in that number?
Come play golf with me.
The Manele Golf Course is associated with the Four Seasons Resort Lanai – The Beach Resort ( http://www.fourseasons.com/lanai ). When the resort re-opens on February 1, 2016 the golf course will be reserved for resort guests, Lanai locals, Hawaii Kama’ainas and Island Club Membership. — I recommend getting into one of these groups and playing this magnificent course.

Wayne, had a great time, thanks for the round!
Aloha Matt,
I had a wonderful time too. It was great meeting you. And I can’t think of a better place to meet someone than the Manele Golf Course. Sometimes things just work out well – this time thanks in large part to you.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
Aloha Wayne,
Awesome summary and photos of a great day! I will share this on my social media outlets so people know what they’re missing. Thanks again for the fun round, it was definitely a highlight of the trip to be able to do this. We are now further motivated to join you on Kauai for some golf on our next adventure. Hopefully the fairways over there will be wide enough to contain all of our shots 🙂
Till next time
Josh
