Mini Post: Deck Rebuild –
By Wayne Halm –
More rain before daybreak, but the Sun came up in clear skies.
While I waited for things to dry out, a trip to Home Depot seemed like a good idea. I had a new idea for the rail and wanted to check it out. The idea didn’t pan out but I bought another gallon of stain.

The first coat, on bare wood, really soaks up a lot of stain.
.
By early afternoon the Sun had dried the wood so I could continue. I completed the first coat of stain on the planks.

As expected the first coat looked kind of rough – but the wood was sealed from the weather.
.
Somehow this day didn’t seem terribly productive to me. I think the wood looks worse after the first coat than before. But I knew that, I had done this part before, and tomorrow I will change that. Check back and find out how.
Then — Come play golf with me.

Did you use a brush or a cloth to stain your deck? A cloth adds a different finish, but way harder. Looks good!

Aloha Jim,
I used a brush. I wanted to seal the wood with the first coat. I really don’t think I need it to be any harder. Thanks.

Aloha Wayne,
Keep plugging away my friend, you’re almost there, and from the pic I think the stain looks good so far!
Cheers
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Thanks Josh. I think there is a ways to go yet, but I will keep at it. I need the fair weather to hold.
A Hui Hou,
