Round Played: with Cordell and April Polite –
By Wayne Halm –
Dull weather couldn’t stop us –
On October 4th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course with Cordell and April Polite from Waianae, Hawaii. (Waianae is a town on the west coast of Oahu.) As April explained it, they were visiting Kauai for a “honeymoonish” weekend. I’m glad they did.

The weather for our round wasn’t up to the normal high Kauai standards – clouds blocked much of the sky.
.
.
I struck the ball pretty well on this round. I hit all of the fairways. And I hit the greens, except when I didn’t.

Can you chip completely across a large green – twice – and still make everyone laugh about it? I proved it possible on the 9th hole.
.
It has been called the “Ocean Effect”, but I believe that it is just “having fun” that brings out the smiles near the ocean.

Honestly, there weren’t still laughing at my golf shots – I birdied the 13th hole. We were just having old fashioned fun.
.

And we kept on having fun. Now that I look at it, the dull day might have affected my wardrobe selection (I’ll mention that to the girls) – but Cordell made up for it.
.
The shot of the day came on the 16th hole. Cordell’s second shot bounced across the green and into the bunker behind. His bunker shot came up delicately, rolled slowly across the green – and into the cup. April and I watched and cheered. Ironically Cordell was standing in the bunker and couldn’t see it.
.
.
After 18, we laughed all the way back to the clubhouse. This was another great day on the golf course. It was the way golf should be.
Come play golf with me.

Aloha Wayne,
You still managed to look sharp in the “dark and stormy” outfit on this day. Looks like Cordell did his share of keeping this bright in the group. Sounds like your game is in good shape, and better yet your ability to have fun on the course no matter what! Always a joy reading your stories.
Thanks
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Thank you. The weather was dull, but our spirits were bright. And I got to meet a new club, my wedge. Watching us you would have thought we had never met before – but it was comical. Send my best to Beth.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
