Round Played: with Tom and Kevin Smith –
By Wayne Halm –
Once was not enough –
On August 12th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course with Tom Smith from New Haven, Connecticut and his son Kevin Smith from Washington, DC. Tom and I had played before (back in November of 2014) and he came back wanting to show his son this magnificent Nicklaus course.

Our timing wasn’t the greatest, this was the first day the course re-opened after aeration. The greens were more white than green, but we didn’t let that deter us – we were having fun playing golf!

Does age matter in golf? I don’t believe it does in the fun part, old guys tend to have more stories. But I’m beginning to think it does matter ‘off the tee’.

Tom and I tried and we hit some great shots. To be sure we cheered good shots and we high fived pars.

Tom and I may have taken a beating on the scorecard – but that doesn’t sting for long. The smiles and memories on the course are a lot more durable..

When golfers want to have a good time, they will find a way – and we did. In spite of the temporary beach like conditions on the greens we had a great round. More laughs than putts. It was the way golf should be.

Aloha Wayne,
Looks like a another great day despite sandy aerated greens. Age may matter off the tee, but it doesn’t matter in the fun department like you mentioned, and it also doesn’t hold you back in the style department.
Cheers!
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Yes, another great day! Now that Kevin has shown me it can be done, I am going to learn to putt on the sand (or maybe learn to putt period). I can’t take much credit in the style department. I am still living “the simple life” – I just put on what she hands me, then go out and have fun.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
