Round Played: with Mark Compton –
By Wayne Halm –
Going head to head with a Professional –
On June 30th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course with Mark Compton from Berkley, California. This was a bit different, but absolutely fun. (Click on the pictures for a larger view – then use the browser ‘back’ button.)
.
Mark is a good golfer – but he is also a professional photographer. You bet I felt pressure at taking pictures of him. But of course I did. You can see my work here and his work on www.markcompton.com . You be the judge, tell me how I did.
The “Golf Gods” didn’t always smile on us this day. But that was their problem.
.
.
The Kauai Lagoons Course offers some absolutely spectacular views – ocean, mountains, and coastline.
.

.
I continued with the pictures, it is just part of playing golf with Wayne. Mark didn’t seem to mind, he had a string of pars going.
.
.
This was a great day on the course. Maybe it could have been better if more putts had dropped. But we didn’t let little things like that bother us, we were having fun. It was the way golf should be.
Come play golf with me.

Thanks for not posting the videos Wayne! The lovely photos allow for the readers to fill in the rest with their imaginations. Looking forward to the next round . . .
Aloha Mark,
Thank you. Very kind words about the photos. That was a fun day and I also look forward to doing it again.

Aloha Wayne,
I think you held up to the pressure well in the photo department my friend. I also checked out some photos on Mark’s site and there’s some great stuff there. I don’t know many guys man enough to rock those shorts, but you managed to do it. Good on ya!
Cheers
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Thank you. There are all sorts of pressures in my style of golf.
During one of Mark’s long putts I tended the pin and got the idea of videoing the putt from that angle. I would get his setup routine and putt, then follow the ball all the way into the cup. Well, it didn’t work out that way. Mark lined up carefully, took one last look at the cup, and saw the shorts and broke down giggling. The putt didn’t come anywhere near the cup. I may start calling them my “competition shorts”.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
Wayne, I just spit water all over my keyboard as I broke out in laughter – great story. Those shorts are now your secret weapon for competition. I like how you roll. When I make it out your way for some golf, I will need to be mentally prepared.
Cheers!
Josh
Whats with the shorts, did you lose a bet?
Aloha,
Yes, I did sort of lose a bet. Earlier in the Pro Shop I boasted that I would wear those shorts. Then Sally and Priscella called my bluff. For background on this see my post at https://kauaigolf.me/2015/02/04/fashion-advice-needed/ . Wearing the shorts was awkward at first but then it became fun.
