Round Played: with Jim Lorenz –
By Wayne Halm –
What do Ship’s Engineers do in port? Sometimes they work – and sometimes they play golf with me –
On June 25th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course with Jim Lorenz from Hillsborough, New Jersey. This was a good day, a perfect setup for fun – and we had it. (Click on the pictures for a larger view – then use the browser ‘back’ button.)
.
Jim is an engineer and a fun guy to be around. But if you play golf with him be aware, he is young and strong – and he hits the ball a long way.
.
.
The par 3 fifth hole can be intimidating. The ball needs to fly at least 170 yards to the front of the green. The drop area on the other side is heavily used.
.
.
Oh yeah, we celebrated that birdie. And Jim continued to smile through all of the posed pictures.
.
.
.
And Jim had reason to smile. He continued to strike the ball well. On 16 he had another realistic birdie putt.
.
.
This was another great day on the golf course. Lots of smiles, laughs, and fun. It was the way golf should be.
Come play golf with me.

Aloha Wayne,
You sure know how to make a guy want to come play golf with you. Glad you and Jim had a good time. Any birdies or memorable shots for Wayne on this day?
Cheers!
Josh
Aloha Josh,
Thank you, we did have fun. And yes, come play golf with me. On this day I must have had “strong eyes”; the ball stopped short of where I planned. I had a lot of tap in bogies.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
Looks like a perfect day playing golf! You inspire me more and more, Wayne. 🙂
Aloha Hanne,
Thank you. I do have fun. When the wanderlust hits you again, come play golf with me.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
I am Delores (Dee) Lorenz from Spokane WAshington. I am Jim’s grandmother!! Tears and smiles as I read the story! Grandpa Jim left this ‘realm’ in 2005. He was probably looking down and smiling!
Tjhanks for this article.
Aloha Delores,
Thank you, your comment means a lot to me. You should be proud, you and Grandpa Jim raised a fine grandson. I hope to put his smiling face out here again.
A Hui Hou (until next time),

Wayne, you are obviously one of life’s “Good Guy”!’ May you have many more years of bringing joy – especially – to young people.
“GrandmaDee” was a pretty darn, good ‘mediocre’ golfer herself. I couldn’t get l-o-n-g distances –but my ball went down the ‘straight and narrow’! Love the game!
And – Aoha to you. Blessings! Dee Lorenz
Aloha Delores,
Thank you, you are very kind. On the good days I can play mediocre golf too. Have Jim get you a ride on that big boat of his and come play golf with me.
A Hui Hou,
Wayne
