Round Played: with Tom Butler –

By Wayne Halm –

The day I beat The Tiger –

On June 6th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course with Tom Butler from The Woodlands, Texas.  This was a good day for me – I will remember it.   (Click on the pictures for a larger view – then use the browser ‘back’ button.)

My wife, Sally, went along with me and provided some ‘coaching’.  But mostly she satisfied the demands of her FitBit.

This was a perfect day, very few clouds, a light wind, and Tom and I struck the ball well.  Even the canyons weren’t a problem for us.

Tom is a great guy and we had a lot of fun.  He always had a smile on his face.  The more putts that dropped the bigger the smile became.

Thanks in part to FitBit’s insatiable hunger for steps, Sally even walked onto the 16th tee and took a picture of me.

I know much of this post is about me.  But let me warm you, Tom has a pretty powerful swing.  If you plan to out-drive him, you had best really get-on-it.

His long drives and controlled irons frequently resulted in pars – and even more smiles.

This was a great fun day.  We walked back to the clubhouse happy golfers.  It was the way gold should be.

Back in the clubhouse I had a bitter-sweet surprise – my 83 beat The Tiger’s 85 on that day!  Never mind that 83 was a great score for me and 85 was his career worst – I beat The Tiger!  I was happy for me but felt bad for him – like it or not, he made golf what it is today.

Come play golf with me.

  1. Aloha Wayne,

My man, showing Tiger how it is done — in style no less! Another successful and fun day on the course. You are right about Tiger, we golfers should be grateful for Tiger and how he grew the game. I sure hope he can find his game again, it’s a lot of fun having that red shirt in contention on Sunday. Maybe you should fly over to Chambers Bay next week and give him a few pointers?

    Cheers,

    Josh

    • Aloha Josh,

Thank you for your kind words. That was a great day, we did have more laughs than putts. — Three putt and Wayne will tell another joke – how’s that for incentive to line up carefully?

      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne

  2. Looks like you had a very fun day!
