Round Played: Family Golf –

By Wayne Halm –

Sometimes things happen for the best –

On February 8th 2015 I played the Kauai Lagoons course.  I was scheduled to play with a three-some, but they showed up with a fourth.  I let them go, waited 20 minutes and went out as a single.

Normally I would not play as a single, but my wife, Sally, was riding with me.  We were having a good time and decided to give it a try.

Sally - Oh yeah, golfing with her can be FUN.

Sally – Oh yeah, golfing with her can be FUN.

In the beginning I had absolutely no ‘feel’ on the greens and 3 putted the first three holes.  After the third Sally wanted to try it (as a single we had plenty of time).  She dropped a ball where I began – and calmly rolled it in!  Then she stated, “And that is how it’s done.”

Sally said, "And that's how it is done."

I don’t know what adjustment her demonstration made in my head, but I didn’t 3 putt again.

This turned into an awesome day for me – I had the three 3 putts, but I hit all of the fairways and 11 of the greens.

Oh yeah, that big dumb grin grew across my face.

You bet that big dumb grin was on my face.

We were behind a slew of four-somes and it was a four and half hour round.  That gave us time to talk, to take pictures – and to just have FUN.

I was smiling before - and after my shot.

I was smiling before this shot – and after – it was a good day.

Sally sort of 'got into' the pictures.

Okay, maybe I was enjoying having my picture taken for a change too.

Just relaxing and fun.

Just relaxing and fun.

It is true, sometimes things do happen for the best.  This was a fantastic day on the golf course – just deep down FUN.  It was the way golf should be.

Come play golf with me.

Sounds like a great day, I’m happy to hear Sally motivated you to putt better! Some of the best moments in life are spent on the course with loved ones. Glad to hear you embraced the extra time you had out on the course rather than letting the waiting frustrate you.

    Cheers!

    • Aloha Josh,
Yes, she motivated my putter – or maybe the thing just ran out of 3 putts. It doesn’t matter either way, I was having fun.
I agree, golfers should enjoy every hour on the course. There is always something to talk about between shots, and it is usually not that hard to find.
I hope you treated Beth well on Valentine’s day.
      A Hui Hou,
      Wayne
