Mark Edward Harris is an award winning Travel/Documentary photographer based in Los Angles, California. You can see some of his amazing work at www.markedwardharris.com .
Yes, I was a little intimidated – even embarrassed to pull out my little Kodak camera. But I needed pictures for this post, and was never one to let being “out-classed” stop me from trying my best. So I snapped right along side Mark. My results are here (let me know what you think) and I look forward to seeing Mark’s on his website.
It was August 19th 2014 when we went out on the Kauai Lagoons course. Our foursome was Mark Harris, Sachiko Suzuki, Kenneth Kimura, and me. Sachiko is from Osaka, Japan.

Kenneth Kimura is the Golf Operations Manager at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club.
We did start out playing golf, Mark is a good player. But gradually we let conversation and the beauty of the course distract us. (My influence? Perhaps. I do like to talk.)
Mark got into his work – so many incredible views. I won’t say “kid in a candy store” – but he was happy.
I also found an interesting photographic perspective. I have no idea what kind of plant this is, and I’ve watched way too many “monster movies” – but it strongly reminded me of an octopus. That is nervous fear you see on my face – I could feel the tentacles closing around me.
Yes, this was a good day on the golf course – we hit some good shots – we took some good shots – and we talked and laughed a whole lot. My kind of golf!
After the round Mark gave me one of his books – The Way of the Japanese Bath . Let me briefly describe my reaction to this book (and yes, it invokes a reaction): these are pictures of Japanese people taking baths – taking baths in some really fancy pools and tubs – they look peaceful – they are enjoying it – I bet they look forward to it – in comparison my 4 minute American showers fall way short. Mark didn’t tell me this – he showed it to me. Thank you Mark.
Come play golf with me.
