On August 17th 2014 Brian, Kenneth Kimura, and I played the Kauai Lagoons course. We had a 7:10 tee time and absolutely perfect weather. This was a good day.
This was a VERY good day for me. It was my 40th wedding anniversary, I was playing golf – and I was playing well. A very good day indeed.
“Playing well” can be a misleading term. I played my normal game for 14 holes. It was only on four holes that I “played well’. The four doubles and triples that usually go on my card simply did not happen.
On the score card the difference between low 90s and low 80s is ten strokes – but on the course it is just the execution of 3 or 4 shots. Golf is like that.
We played golf – but still, we took time to admire the beauty and features of the course. It plays through the hill country and down to the ocean.
Kauai Lagoons 8th hole
On the course there are Mango filled ravines to explore and a Macadamia grove to enjoy.
The beauty and features can be a distraction to first time players. I suspect that is pretty much the way Jack Nicklaus planned it. Sometimes I feel guilty about getting to enjoy it so often – sometimes, but I get over it quickly.
Come play golf with me.
